Thacher Island Association Events Schedule 2008 Annual Meeting –June 23 at the Community House in Rockport 7:30 PM.All are invited, refreshments will be served and we will recap the past years accomplishments along with our future plans . Annual Light House Cruise - Friday, July 18th from Cape Ann Whale Watch, Main St. in Gloucester aboard the Hurricane II the fastest and most comfortable boat on the Cape. This is a NEW tour entitled “Lighthouses Along the NorthShore and Boston”. We will travel down the coast to Salem, Marblehead, Baker’s Island,and Graves Light to Boston Harbor Light. Jeremy D’Entremont, lighthouse expert and author, will narrate the tour. Cash bar and sandwiches and snacks available. Boat sails at 6:00pm. Call 978-546-6821 for reservations. Art&Photo Days on Thacher - We invite all amatuer and proffessional artists and photographers to spend the day on Thacher to create memorable works.We offer trips on Saturday August 2 and Wednesday August 6.Call 978-546-2250 for details and reservations. Lighthouse Keeper Interns Wanted The Thacher Island Town Committee along with the Thacher Island Association is pleased to announce the institution of a Lighthouse Keeper Internship Program on Thacher Island. Each Internship will be for one week during which the intern couple will work alongside experienced keepers, learning the duties of lighthouse keepers and developing the skills necessary to fill that position. These Internships are unpaid but lodging will be provided. The qualities being sought are self-reliance, the ability to function in an isolated environment, identify problems in equipment and make minor repairs with instructions from ashore if necessary. Skills in carpentry, mechanical aptitude and landscaping are preferred. The Internships will occur during the third week of July, August and September. If you are seeking an unusual experience in an isolated environment, would like to stretch your horizons and can function as a good tenant and steward, this may be the circumstance for you. Volunteers Needed! Once again we are asking for volunteers to help with various projects this summer. Catagories include ; Workers to help with various projects on the island when we go out on Wednesdays during the summer. Jobs include wood working, porch repair, painting, landscaping, mowing with a tractor, weed whipping and brush removal. We also need help with electrical installations.Anyone who has experience with renewable energy systems, photo voltaic cells, wiring or solar power is welcome.
